King Abdullah University of Science & Technology
A comprehensive horticultural review of the campus, surrounding areas, residential and sports facilities, including irrigation and agronomy aspects.
With grassed areas being irrigated by either treated, recycled water, or desalinated water, and with the sometimes extreme heat conditions on site, presenting the facilities to an international standard can be challenging.
Hemstock Design carried out a detailed assessment of all of the sports facilities on the campus, developing a programme of upgrading and improved maintenance strategy, including the establishment of a testing and monitoring system.
The recommendations included irrigation system upgrading, to help reduce the use of water. This was very quickly giving results, with a 20% reduction in monthly water use; a huge benefit financially on such a large site, being irrigated with relatively expensive desalinated water.
